Born at Hull September 29, 1828, died at Grahamstown June 24, 1889. In grateful remembrance of his conscientious and untiring efforts for their welfare of the Salem Academy of which he was principal for many years. " Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them."
