Cemetery / Memorials Information: 

St. Matthew’s Mission dates from Sir George Grey’s time in SA and Chief Sochise gave of his land so that formal education could be had by his people. It was the vision of Bishop John Armstrong but it was the Rev. Charles Taberer who gave 50 years of his life to it. The military chaplain at Fort Eyre in Keiskammahoek at the time of St. Matthew’s establishment, the Rev. George Dacre contributed much and a stone memorial in his honour is to be seen on the right hand side going up the Dontsa Pass which he helped construct. (Robert Speirs)
