Cemetery information:-
Tarkastad was laid out in 1862 on the farm Boschfontein and became a municipality in 1883. Named after the Tarka River which flows past it. Ref. New Dictionary of South African Place Names by P RAPER.

They whom this Memorial commemorates were numbered among those who at the call of King and country left all that was dear to them, endured hardness, faced dangers and finally passed out of the sight of men by the path of duty and self sacrifice, giving up their lives that others might live in freedom.
