3. British Soldiers - ABO 1899-1902

On 5 July 1900 the British army under Gen. Hutton encamped on the farms Rietfontein 6 & Rietvlei 383, near present-day Delmas and Bapsfontein. On 7 July the Skirmish of Witklip took place, resulting in 35 losses. On 16 July the Battle of Witpoort took place on the adjacent farm Witpoort. British losses on the day were losses were 7 killed, with 30 wounded; 2 officers and 22 soldiers had been taken prisoner. (source: S.A.
