Gauteng, JOHANNESBURG, Sandton, cnr Outspan and Ballyclare, Depot 406, Zandfontein 42, cemetery
Cemetery information:- Information received from Dave Kinghorn (referring to JHB City Parks and Zoo "Depot 406 Heritage Report 11 Sept 2017") Dave writes: (shortened) Grave 1. My photo is virtually identical to the one in the report. Walking round it I couldn't see any sign of any gravestone. The coordinates are S 26° 05.076' and E 028° 03 033'. Grave 2. Despite being "Located behind Grave 1", there was no sign of this. (At least you know it's rough location from the GPS coordinates of Grave 1.) Grave 3. There were a number of trees that looked vaguely like the photo in the report as I drove in off Ballyclare. There is a large park behind and to the side of the depot, so I focused on the photo and tried hard to find some correspondence. The real clue came from the posts on the top right of the picture and the wall and roof on the top left. My photo Grave 3 matches pretty well. They are S 26° 04.998 and E 028° 33.033'. The problem with these graves is there are no markings whatsoever and as you see from para b) in the description they are recommending seeing if the bones are animal or human. Paragraph b) in the report states there are 4 unknown grave on site, of which neither deceased nor family members are known. It also states that it has to be exhumed and determined if human or animal remains.
