4. St James Anglican Church information signboard
Built as the second Anglican church and completed in 1898. Maj Gen Sir William Penn Symons, Commander-in-Chief of the British forces at the battle of Talana is buried in this churchyard, as is Rev Baily, the Vicar of St James, who remained in Dundee throughout the Boer occupation 23 Oct 1899 - 15 May 1900. He stayed to look after the wounded soldiers and remaining civilians.
