Kwazulu-Natal, KLIPRIVIER District, Ladysmith, Roosboom 1102_2, Portion 437, farm cemetery
Cemetery / Memorials Information:
The property now belongs (I think) to the Ladysmith Municipality (Alfred Duma Municipality) and a township is proposed/under development on the property. It was a condition of sale of the property to the Municipality that the cemetery be preserved, and this has been allowed for in the town planning of the area.
At least some of the unknown graves are thought to be members of the McDuling family who owned the farm before FE Bloy bought it. The general consensus is that grave numbers 6 – 8 are McDulings. I am told by a member of the McDuling family that the following family members are buried there:
MABEL MARY JOHANNA McDULING, born HARDING, b 05/02/1887, d 15/07/1948. Wife of Cornelius Rykaart McDuling.
CORNELIUS RYKAART(“CLIP”) McDULING, b 08/07/1884, d 05/04/1937. GERHARDUS HENRY McDULING, b 08/07/1884, d 25/02/1939.
I am also attaching a photo of a plaque that was on one of these graves (number 6?) but is no longer there. This photo was received from Mrs Louise McDuling from Colesberg.
Grave number 5 is possibly a child: EDITH BOWES, b c1929-1930 and who died aged 7 years.
