St. Andrew's Church stood on this site from 1870-1956. It was dedicated on St. Andrew's Day 1870 and had been built in the grounds of the Rev. James Walton's house following the division in the Anglican Church which lasted from 1868-1894. St. Andrew's was High Church and its adherents were buried here from 1871. Graves include those of Rev. & Mrs Walton and members of their family, Canon Crompton and his family and Judge Meller and his family, all important figures in early Pinetown. During the Zulu war period from 1879 to the annexation of Zululand in Dec.1897 a number of military units were stationed in Pinetown and some of their members are buried in a section of this Churchyard. Graves include that of Captain Joseph Malone V.C.,Riding Master of the 6th Inniskilling Dragoons stationed in Pinetown, who died on June 28th 1883. Captain Malone won his Victoria Cross in an heroic action at the battle of Balaclava during the "Charge of the Light Brigade" in the Crimean War. Men of other well known British regiments such as the 7th and 13th Hussars and the 85th Kings Light Infantry H Co. are also buried in the military section. This Churchyard was re-dedicated on Remembrance Sunday, November 11,1990
