Kwazulu-Natal, UNDERBERG district, Garden Castle State Forest, Silver Streams 12095, farm cemetery

Cemetery information:- The cemetery is situated on the farm Silverstreams, near to the Bushmans Neck Hotel in the Underberg district. Adjacent to the cemetery is a sandstone farmhouse and a trading store, also constructed of sandstone from the surrounding mountains. Apparently the farmhouse is 100 years old and the trading store somewhat older at 120. There used to be a farm school behind the trading store but it ceased to function a very long time ago. The original owners were named Houston/McMillan, who farmed there and also operated the trading store. One of the gravestones bears that surname. The farm and buildings were later sold to Johan Geyer, whose surviving wife now lives in the sandstone house. The Bushmans Neck Hotel part was then sold to a timeshare group. The Geyers established a resort on the land. Upon Mr Geyer's death, his widow affixed a plaque bearing his name to the headstone of an old existing gravestone. The cemetery is somewhat neglected with leaves from the surrounding bluegum trees. There are about 12 or 13 graves. I was informed that there were graves of three children, one teacher and various members of the farming community, going back several decades. Only two of the graves still have identifying details. Two of the graves have identifying numbers from an undertaker company in Kokstad but I have been unable to find out any further information. However, I was told these two (brothers?) were apparently not given any headstones as they had fallen out with the family (? Houston McMillan) and were suspected of the disappearance of a vault containing money from the farm.
