Cemetery information:- This cemetery was used in the late 1800's by die gold diggers of Steynsdorp. It is in the veld, overgrown and in a bad state. Two graves have been dug open. The story is that the mine manager of the time, Mr Hodge, buried gold under his wife's body. The result is that her grave, as well as the unmarked grave next to hers, have been dug open and are much deeper than normal graves. It is unclear what happened to their bodies. (See the photograph for Eliza HODGE) Album complete, all visible and accessible gravestone were photographed. eGGSA captions by: Riana le Roux The GGSA Cemetery DVD/ Cemetery Transcript Project only has information on the cemetery location.
