Cemetery information:- This cemetery was opened in around 1886. Some of the memorials and gravestones from the closed & later demolished Somerset Road cemetery were taken to Maitland from around 1907 to the 1920's. Have a look at these examples - James ADAMSON and his wife from the 1870's, the earliest minister of the Scottish church in Cape Town; John & Elizabeth FAIRBURN from the 1840's, the latter being daughter to Dr John PHILIPS the missionary and Christian HOHNE who died 1820, director of the Slave Lodge.
